Community History
One of the areas of focus for the Breton Museum is telling the story of how Breton came to be, and showing how it has changed over the years.
The area around Breton was first settled by African American pioneers beginning around 1910 who established a community they called Keystone. In 1926, the Lacombe & North Western Railway was extended to Breton and a hamlet was established under that name. The community grew and in 1957 Breton was incorporated as a village.
Visit the museum to learn more about the railway, where Breton got its name, and to see pictures and artifacts from days gone by!
